Don Oíche Úd i mBeithil is a traditional Irish song whose exact origins are unknown, though it's thought that it may date back as far as the 7th century CE. It sings of the night Jesus was born in Bethlehem, in the West Bank.
This arrangement is interwoven with fragments of a Palestinian folk tune called Yumma Mweil El-Hawa or Mother, the Song of Love is my Song, which I learned courtesy of Clare Sands.
The spoken word is inspired by something shared by @Sli_Na_Rua on Instagram. Tá orm fianaise a dhéanamh, tá orainn fianaise a dhéanamh. I must bear witness, we must bear witness.
lyrics
Translation:
I sing of a night in Bethlehem
A night as bright as dawn
I sing of that night in Bethlehem
The night the Word was born
The skies are glowing gaily
The earth in white is dressed
See Jesus in the cradle
Drink deep in His mother's breast
And there on a lonely hillside
The shepherds bow down in fear
When the heavens open brightly
And God's message rings out so clear
Glory now to the Father
In all the heavens high
And peace to His friends on earth below
Is all the angels cry

Incredible album. I'm so happy how "Little Green Cars" evolved into Soda Blonde, and extremely pleased that Faye O'Rourke is at the forefront of vocals with her fantastic, captivating voice. Such a moving album, and the underlying themes really presenting a sort of isolation and general feeling of being upset in a relationship, in my interpretation. Her voice is a beautiful instrument, listen you'll see what I'm taking about Great beats, melodies. Not just a great Rap/ Hip Hop album, great album period. BetoR
A hushed and low-lit EP from this Melbourne musician, where dreamlike melodies drift across a bed of tender guitar. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 19, 2023
